The new quality productive force that unravels the mysteries of diseases - how micro-nano 3D printing is transforming the forefront of medicine
2025-10-24
In today's era where human health research is constantly moving towards precision and forward-looking, micro-nano manufacturing, especially micro-nano 3D printing, is becoming an important tool for global researchers. The extensive application of Mobox Technology in the field of research demonstrates that from understanding the brain's neural networks to constructing bionic organoids, from drug delivery to cardiovascular intervention and post-operative rehabilitation, micro-nano manufacturing is deeply involved in many cutting-edge fields of medical research, helping researchers reveal disease mechanisms more quickly and providing clinical doctors with new treatment tools. Compared to simply achieving high precision, it is more like a new type of productive force emerging at the forefront of medical research fields, quietly accelerating the exploration process of human life and health.
Balancing efficiency and precision
Micro-nano 3D printing becomes a powerful tool for exploring life
On the path of disease research, scientists not only need "surgical tools" capable of manipulating tiny organs and cellular environments, complex vessels that precisely replicate the human body, microfluidic chips that enhance the level of drug-loaded microspheres, but also miniature robots that can drill into human blood vessels... Traditional manufacturing methods, when dealing with micro and complex structures, either have high costs or are insufficient. Whether it is the processing of micro-metric channels or the construction of complex biomimetic structures, they are often limited by the manufacturing costs or manufacturing bottlenecks of traditional methods such as cutting and machining.
The micro-nano 3D printing technology, with its sub-micron precision, integrated molding capability and rapid iteration advantages, has become an indispensable technical platform for disease research and medical innovation. It not only shortens the research and development cycle but also can complete the processing tasks that previously took weeks or even months within a few hours, significantly improving the research efficiency.
Currently, micro-nano 3D printing has demonstrated significant potential in the field of medical and health research. It can precisely replicate the topological structure of neural networks, assisting in the study of neurodegenerative diseases; it can also fabricate biomimetic vascular networks, supporting the long-term cultivation of organoids, and providing a new platform for research on cancer, kidney diseases, and heart diseases. In the lipidosome drug delivery system based on the combination of microfluidics and machine learning, micro-nano manufacturing has already shown promise in the treatment of ulcerative colitis.
It can be said that micro-nano 3D printing has enabled researchers to conduct bold experiments for the first time at the "microscopic scale of life", opening up new windows for disease research. And Mobang Precision, as the global leader in micro-nano 3D printing, has provided its technology to over 800 research institutions in 40 countries and regions worldwide. It is a typical example of observing this phenomenon. Since the first equipment was delivered in 2018, Mobang has assisted scientists in continuously achieving breakthrough results in fields such as neuroscience, regenerative medicine, and tumor research. The related research achievements have been published multiple times in top global journals such as Sciences and Nature.

01 To explore the brain and access the inner vessels, upgrade of research tools is being carried out.
In neuroscientific research, scientists have long faced the challenge of precisely implanting multiple optical fibers into the brains of animals. The traditional methods were not only time-consuming and labor-intensive, but also increased the risk of anesthesia for the animals. Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory utilized the Mofang Micro-Nano 3D Printing Equipment to fabricate lightweight optical drivers, achieving sub-micron-level precise positioning of multiple fibers. This not only shortened the surgical time but also significantly improved the experimental efficiency. This achievement enables neuroscientists to reveal the association mechanism between brain neural activities and diseases more quickly and safely.

In the field of regenerative medicine, researchers from the University of Manchester and Nanyang Technological University used microfabrication equipment to create nerve conduits with micro-groove structures. This innovation upgraded the design of the nerve conduits from a "single channel" to a "biologically inspired multi-level topology", providing a physical-chemical co-guiding environment for cell growth. The grooves are like "highways" built for nerve cell repair, significantly promoting Schwann cell migration and the orderly extension of axons. This means that patients with peripheral nerve injuries may be able to achieve more efficient repair through this biomimetic conduit in the future.

02 Brings New Breakthroughs to Disease Treatment
In immune-related diseases, micro-nano manufacturing also demonstrates great potential. Psoriasis is a stubborn chronic skin disease, and traditional treatments are difficult to precisely control the immune response. Researchers from the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences used micro-nano molds fabricated by Mofang equipment to combine DNA nanostructures with drug delivery systems, and produced micro-nanopatch patches, achieving precise treatment at the lesion sites of the skin diseases. This strategy not only alleviated inflammation but also significantly improved the quality of life of patients.

A similar approach has also been applied in cancer research. A research team from Fudan University and the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanchang University used the organoid chips manufactured by Mobox to break through the "organoids cannot grow large" bottleneck for the first time. The researchers successfully cultivated centimeter-sized tumor organoids in vitro and conducted drug sensitivity experiments based on this. The study found that compared to traditional organoids, centimeter-sized organoids respond more sensitively to chemotherapy drugs and are closer to the actual patient tumors. This means that in the future, doctors can predict patients' responses to drugs through this platform and promote true individualized treatment.

The team from Wuhan University further expanded their research scope to tackle the problem of drug resistance in breast cancer. Using molds manufactured by Mobonic and through PDMS mold replication, they developed a micro-needle array targeting mitochondria, which precisely activated the death switch of cancer cells and reversed the resistance to doxorubicin. This innovation provides a new solution direction for patients whose chemotherapy drugs have failed.

03 Provide solutions to clinical challenging problems
Only when scientific research results are truly applied in clinical settings can they change the fate of patients. In terms of facilitating breakthroughs in various clinical applications, micro-nano 3D printing has successfully provided diverse solutions and methods to address the practical and challenging issues in clinical practice.
For instance, a team from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University used a mold from Mofang to manufacture sub-millimeter magnetic control micro catheters, achieving efficient navigation in extremely fine blood vessels and significantly enhancing the accuracy and safety of stroke and cardiovascular interventional treatments.

Researchers from Southeast University have developed a wearable patch that combines micro-needles with a mesh structure. This device can detect key markers within 50 minutes of a heart attack, allowing patients to receive the golden rescue time. The team from Wuhan University has designed a hydrogen photothermal micro-needle system, which provides a gentler and more personalized solution for postoperative pain management and wound healing.

02 Recognized by the world's top health research institute
Recently, the research institute under the National Institutes of Health in the United States, which specializes in diseases related to the heart, lungs and blood, purchased micro-scale precision equipment from Mo Fang. Although we do not yet know exactly which research directions this institute will apply the Mo Fang equipment to, this research institute is renowned for exploring disease mechanisms and promoting clinical transformation. The related research outputs have significant leading-edge significance globally. This choice itself has become another example of the irreplaceable position of micro-nano manufacturing in global medical research and applications.

The microArch® S240 from MoFang (with an accuracy of 10 μm) has received the "Prism Award", the highest honor in the global field of optoelectronic technology.
Micro-nano manufacturing is no longer just a cutting-edge concept in the laboratory; it has already become a daily tool for global research institutions and medical facilities, facilitating scientific exploration and clinical transformation. It is accelerating humanity's quest for the essence of diseases and laying a solid foundation for the future of precision medicine. In this process, MOF will continue to invest, constantly improve and iterate technologies, working together with global scientists to drive medical research to new depths and breadth.
